Pre-K Reading 1/21/2026 – Surprised Again!
So last week I told you about Nelson who likes Curious George but doesn’t like funny books. Well, once again, a child has surprised me.
I was getting ready to read some serious books with him this week. I told him that I wanted to read him a science book because he’s such a smart kid. “You’re right. I am smart” he said. But then he surprised me by asking to read some funny books, like Buggy Bug (the one he didn’t laugh at last week). I get the sense he thought he might have missed something, and he was right!
We started with The Chicken Who Couldn’t by Jan Thomas. This particular book by Jan Thomas is the longest one in my bag. My plan was to work up to it, but Nelson wanted to read it first, so that’s what we did. He agreed that it was interesting that the author starts the story right away and doesn’t get to the title page until a few pages in. This is one of those books that gets funnier each time you read it. Nelson found it interesting if not funny.
We went on to read all of the Jan Thomas books in my bag. He liked getting to know and recognize the recurring characters. The funny is definitely growing on him!
