Pre-K Reading 11/19/2025 - What’s in My Bag?
Not much has changed in the last few weeks of reading. So I decided I should write about that.
The children are still enjoying the same books for the most part. I always include a new book each week in case one of them is in the mood for something new. They all love Pete the Cat, so I’ve been bringing more of those books with me.
It may be a little boring for me at times, but it is not boring for the kids. They find comfort in reading their favorite books and ask for them every time. All the kids continue to be enthusiastic about our reading sessions and reading at recess continues to be a big hit.
It’s not hard to see the benefit that reading with the children is making. One boy in particular reads at recess with me every week. When I first started reading with him you could tell that he was generally anxious and seemed starved for attention. He would speak almost with a stutter, but it was only him trying to get words out quickly while he had someone’s attention. Now, he’s totally relaxed, speaks confidently, and seems to be thriving. Of course, I’m not taking all the credit (he has wonderful teachers and fellow classmates who deserve most of that), but I believe that reading with me has helped. When recess is over, he helps me put all the books back in my bag and shake out the blanket while talking about which books he wants to read next time. It is my hope that the love of books and reading will comfort him for the rest of his life.
