A Leaf Can Be...
Author: Laura Purdie Salas
Illustrator: Violeta Dabija
Published: 2012
I came across this book in my local library and fell in love with it immediately. The book is so simple and yet so intricate, just like the topic of the book. The topic of the book is a simple leaf. A leaf is a leaf, right? No! That’s kind of like saying a book is a book.
A leaf can be many things and can serve many purposes. That’s what this book is about. But the many possibilities are told in a most powerful and colorful way.
Technically, I suppose this book is non-fiction but it feels so wonderful and fanciful. And it makes you think… “if a simple leaf in this world can be so amazing, think about how much all of nature does for us!”. If the book’s purpose is to make you appreciate the natural world with amazement and wonder, then this book has achieved it’s goal.
The author Laura Purdie Salas and illustrator Violeta Dabija come about this masterpiece honestly, they have written and illustrated many children’s books in their career. I’m a huge fan and look forward to reading their other works of art.
This book is part of the Can Be Books series. I also have Water Can Be… in my library as well.
Recommended for ages 5 to 8 years.
