Don't Worry Little Crab
Author and Illustrator: Chris Haughton
Published: 2023
I don’t recall how I came across this book but I love it. The thing that grabbed me right off is the beautiful artwork. The colors are so rich and saturated, the shades of blue and green so pleasing it makes me want to live in Little Crab’s world. But life isn’t always easy for Little Crab, some aspects of their world can be dangerous and scary. Lucky for Little Crab, Very Big Crab is there to help show the way.
There are no gender specific pronouns in this book for Little Crab or Very Big Crab, so every child (and parent!) can relate to this story. The love between parent and child (or mentor and child) is very apparent and heartfelt in this story.
This would be a great book to read to a child who is facing any kind of scary journey… the first day of school or a trip to somewhere new. But even if there are no scary journeys on the immediate horizon, the book speaks to the rewards of being brave and trying something new - a lesson we can all learn from.
Suggested for ages 2 to 5 years old.
