I fell in love with this book before I even opened it. The cover features the main character, Little Seed, who you can tell has a happy, open, loving heart before you even open the book. The raised art on the cover makes the book feel classy and special. The excellent artwork continues throughout the book with pleasing colors and rich tones.
This book works on many levels. The story is simple and the characters are so cute that very young children can enjoy it. The story speaks to how everyone is unique and how we each may prefer to be loved in a different way. The story also portrays how each of us, even though we are just tiny individuals, can make a real difference in the world.
This book resonates with me deeply. When I was a young child I remember thinking “why can’t people just love one another?”. Not loving each other felt so foreign to me that I couldn’t understand wars, poverty or racism for example. When I witnessed unkind words or actions towards myself or others, I couldn’t wrap my head around it and I remember feeling very distressed (even when it wasn’t directed towards me). So this books gives me a deep sense of relief.
The book is recommended for ages 1 to 5. I’ve only had the chance to read this book with one child so far and she liked it. But I have the feeling that some children will fall in love with this book as I’m sure I would have as a kid. This book would make a great bedtime story as well.
