I love a story that makes me feel something, like this one did. On the surface this book is wonderfully silly and very cute. The story is simple and well-told, and the illustrations are colorful and cheerful. But the beauty runs deep in this book. There is love and wisdom in the details. The story is about not judging each other based on superficial appearances. Judging each other divides us, accepting each other brings us together. The story is also about true friendship. Accepting each other as we are and being kind even though we’re all a little different. When I read the words I just wrote, it sounds rather preachy. But the book isn’t preachy at all… it manages to make us feel the sweet rewards of friendship and kindness by telling a simple story. This book is pure gold.
Recommended for ages 2 to 5 years.
