The Very Hungry Caterpillar's Forest Hide & Seek
Author and Illustrator: Eric Carle
Published: 2021
This book is a great complement to The Very Hungry Caterpillar. It’s a fun story and kids love the lift-the-flaps and finger trails. The words and rhymes flow easily throughout the book. The artwork by Carle is stunning, of course.
When reading with children, I recommend reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar first, and then this book just for the fun of it. Move through the book the first time at a good pace so the listener can appreciate the rhymes. Then start over again and take your time to appreciate all the artwork and activities on the page. Have your child(ren) find the caterpillar on each page.
I recommend reading it with children who can hold a book in their lap and open the flaps without ripping them (somewhere between 2 to 3 years old to start). It’s a great book to start practicing dexterity by turning the pages, opening the flaps, and following the finger trails.
Recommended for ages 1 to 3 years old.
