Tomorrow I'll Be Brave

This book is as gorgeous as it is inspiring!
Written and illustrated by Jessica Hische. Hische has authored several wonderful children’s books, but she may be best known as a world class lettering artist; creating new fonts, type, and the like. Her creative lettering craft is well represented in the book. Each important word like ‘Strong’, ‘Creative’, and of course, ‘Brave’, has a lettering style all of it’s own. In fact, that is one of the biggest charms of this book. How the words themselves are drawn and portrayed is as creative as the narrative itself. All of the artwork in the book is gorgeous and color rich. I also love all the characters in the book. What could be more approachable than a bunny and a kitty riding a unicorn?
The book encourages children to be the best that they can. Though it’s important to try, the book acknowledges that we can’t be perfect at everything everyday. Tomorrow I’ll Be Brave is a great book to open a discussion with a child about these topics. This is a wonderful book to see and read, and it has special value as a great conversation starter. For each of the qualities: Adventurous, Strong, Smart, Curious, Creative and Confident, there are pictures of the characters doing things that fall into that category. So the discussion is about what the characters are doing in each of the pictures and what the word means. For example, what does it mean to be Brave and why is that important?
I just love everything about this book, and the children I have read it with loved it too!
Recommended for ages 2 to 5 years old.
